CONROE, Texas (June 24, 2025) – Conroe Independent School District is excited to host a series of summer workshops designated primarily towards the rising seniors in the Class of 2026. These events will offer students the opportunity to connect with colleges and universities from across the country and gain insight about the college admission process.
“During the summer, there tends to be less people, unlike the college fairs that are hosted during the school year,” said Laura Willard, the CISD’s Coordinator for College and Career Readiness. “A smaller crowd makes conversation between the students and the colleges and universities easier, so attending the college workshops during summer can give students more benefits and use out of the experience.”
The first summer workshop kicks off at Grand Oaks High School on Wednesday, June 25, from 1-3 p.m. Hosted by the Houston-Area Recruiters Network, this event features representatives from 36 colleges and universities available to answer questions both from students and parents ahead of the upcoming admission season.
Throughout July, additional workshops will cover key topics such as understanding the admission process, writing strong college essays, and learning about scholarship opportunities.
The final workshop of the summer will be on August 2nd at College Park High School. The workshop will focus on applications to highly-selective private institutions. Those attending will hear directly from representatives of these prestigious schools about what these schools look for in applicants.
“By attending one of our workshops, you have a better understanding on how the piece of paper is, what the application looks like, and how it’s not a reflection of how you are as a person,” Willard explained. “You understand this is why they made their decision or that now I get that ‘I’m awesome and one college is going to think I’m awesome, one college is going to think I’m good.’ It just makes the whole light bulb come on about how this works.”
Conroe ISD is fortunate enough to be able to provide multiple college workshops for students to get more information about the college admission process in preparation for their future.
